Join us for a virtual screening of "Legacy of Love" and live Q&A with filmmaker Roberto Mighty. “Legacy of Love”, a 2020 documentary film by Roberto Mighty, hosted by EMMY- award winning newscaster Reverend Liz Walker, is about how Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott met in 1952, fell in love, dreamed a new world together, and resolved to dedicate their union to the civil rights movement. No matter what the cost. The film was funded by King Boston and The Boston Foundation. The film ends with brief commentaries by Boston-area religious and community leaders, representing Christian, Jewish and Moslem houses of worship; and political/community leaders who are Asian-American (Michelle Wu!), African-American, Latin-American and majority. The WGBH-TV public television premier was in August 2020. Since then, Producer Roberto Mighty and the film have been requested by college, school, library and community groups across the USA. In 2021, the National Educational Telecommunications Association announced they will make "Legacy of Love" available to public television stations around the country.

Join filmmaker, Roberto Mighty, for a session in which he will talk about the process of creating and producing his three new TV shows that are airing nationwide on public television. Learn why World’s Greatest Cemeteries, getting dot OLDER and Legacy of Love are all labors of love for this former college professor who is a former Newton resident!

 Roberto Mighty, MFA, is America’s first Artist-in-Residence at a National Historic Landmark cemetery, where he produced 29 short films about diverse historical figures, horticulture, landscape and funerary iconography. Roberto is also Host/Producer of getting dot OLDER, his new 13 episode, half hour public television series about baby boomers across America -- slated for release by APT in January, 2022 . Roberto’s historical documentary about Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King, Legacy of Love, was broadcast on WGBH in 2020. "The video that you chose was a testament to life! Should anyone have had reservations about the topic, a cemetery, was greatly rewarded by being in the audience. The film weaves through life always accenting a thought with beautiful photography. Even shots of flowers become alive as the wind rustles through and causes our minds to wonder. Yes, the person died but we are brought back to life with the rich visual depiction of what is worth living for. The diverse examples of lives that you have chosen again give moments to pause and reflect. The young slave, the young physician who tries to heal smallpox only to fall prey to the devastating disease, the Asian family who faces death in reverse order burying a son before the parents – all these examples become life affirming. The voices, the music and the text all add to the artistry of this film. It was definitely an evening that we’ll remember and ponder for a long time. As another comment, let me mention that residents are coming to me to let me know how much they enjoyed your talk. One resident told me that it was the best she heard at Youville House! Needless to say… they want you back!!!”
